Finally have some time to look over my team in depth.
Here are some pieces available.
I'm overloaded at LF, so I can easily part with one of:
>> Cody Asche: playoff eligible at both 3B and LF. Reasonably young, not likely
>> to be a monster bat, but he can help some against righties.
>> Ezequiel Carrera: playoff eligible in LF, can also spend a fair amount of
>> time in RF. Decent average against all pitching, not much else to speak of.
>> Dustin Ackley: primarily LF, fair amount of usage available at 2B, can also
>> fill in at 1B/CF/RF. I'm still hoping he'll bring his bat to a positive
>> value, but I won't rule out moving him if the right offer comes along.
Infield options:
>> With Kris Bryant on the roster, Martin Prado becomes expendable. Prado can
>> play 2B in a pinch, but Miami has limited him to almost exclusively 3B now.
>> Consistent average, modest power and walks, makes contact. Glove won't kill
>> you, but it won't steal a ton of hits either. I can always keep him and
>> Bryant both with one becoming the full-time DH, so he won't go cheap. Early
>> 30s, so he still has a few years before his value drops significantly.
>> Mr. Versatility II (Brock Holt) is a Zobrist-type player with limited pop.
>> He'll be mostly a 2B this year, but is also playoff eligible at 3B, and can
>> fill in anyplace you need him (except pitch/catch). Needs plenty of PA this
>> year. I probably won't listen to any offers for him worse than a mid-late #2
>> in 2017 or comparable value.
>> Jace Peterson: I grade his top potential as near league-average bat (minus
>> stud-type power), and useful speed. With both Peterson and Holt needing
>> massive PA and both lefty hitters, I have to move one of them. If you want a
>> fairly low-cost option, here he is.
>> Justin Smoak: His first year in Toronto didn't help as much as some had
>> hoped. The only plus side was redeveloping a power stroke. With Adrian firmly
>> set at 1B for another year or two at least, Smoakie no longer fits in the
>> long-range plans, since he will probably lose what few PA I could offer him
>> at DH. I won't entertain low-ball offers, but I'm not gonna ransom you for
>> half your roster either.
>> Mike Olt: Maybe he'll end up playing for all 24 IBL teams at some point, who
>> knows? With Prado and Bryant on hand, Olt becomes a throw-in for just about
>> any deal in the works.
Some pitching availablity:
>> Luis Avilan: Useful LOOGY, but not outstanding in any department. Cheap if
>> you need an extra lefty in the pen.
>> Neftali Feliz: Reclamation project. The only reason I didn't dump him as a
>> FA was I want to get some kind of value for him. Moving to Pittsburgh for
>> MLB16 may rekindle his numbers. Or not. Roll the dice and take your chances,
>> folks.
>> David Phelps: Decent mid-to-back-end starter, not overpowering, can spend
>> some time in the pen for cheap usage. Biggest real-life fault is the
>> inability to play a full season.
>> Pat Neshek: Handy for the middle of the bullpen. Mid-30s, so there isn't
>> much time left, although I'd be willing to ride this horse as long as he
>> produces something useful. Meaning I won't give him away for nearly free, but
>> I won't ignore reasonable offers.
I'm listening ...
Larry
