[IBL] OXY's 2019 Mottos

When fishing for MIS examples to crib off of, I stumbled across the
foreboding, skull-and-crossbones MIS that greets opponents of the Motor
City Marauders.  The intimidating warning is accompanied by MCM's motto,
"Flags Fly Forever."  That is a handy motto to have if you happen to have
some flags.  Unfortunately, the only flag that flies at OXY's Grist and
Toll Stadium is white, and it is usually hoisted by the middle of the first
inning.  It's a signal to OXY's fans that they might as well head home.

Without flags or a motto to go with it, I gathered our few employees for a
brainstorming session to come up with OXY's 2019 slogan.  After quickly
rejecting a couple ideas ("Our Batter Is Up," "We've Got What You Knead"),
we regrouped.

Recognizing that our signature flour biscuits are not yet perfected, and
the play on the field will need to be leavened, I asked for something
aspirational.  Something that acknowledges our flaws but hints at
excellence.

While chewing on one of our biscuits and reviewing our roster, one of our
millers offered that the best we could probably aspire to this season is to
be "seldom stale."

Seldom Stale

At first it brought laughs, then a startling recognition.  That seemed
about right.  "Seldom Stale" conjures images of mostly fresh biscuits
and sometimes satisfying play.  If we can accomplish those things by
season's end, 2019 will be the sort of middling success we want our fans to
grow accustomed to.

Seldom Stale it is.  Our marketing department also wanted an alternative
slogan to be used  for Sunday games at the Grist.  Reflecting the
hard-nosed play we hope to become known for, our alternative motto is "We
Love To Grind."  My millers assure me it will prove popular with the
church crowd.
