A 19-23 start to the season is a bit of a disappointment for us. It's too
early for us to throw in the towel and start dealing, but I thought I'd
throw out a feeler as to what may soon become available if our fortunes
don't improve. If we do deal we'll be looking for cards for next season or
picks or upgrades at various positions (RH outfield bat, C upgrade, 3b
prospect, top level SP & RP, etc.).
*Looking to move*
Rupp PHI c - decent backup C with some pop (VG DF vs. both) who hits LHP
well 82/161/152. Toiling in the minors this season, so what value he has
is in his card.
Mahtook DET - playoff eligible in RF (7/E/+1) and CF (7/G/+1) with a solid
bat against either side (124/148/224 & 121/157/189) who's solid on the
bases (3/6/0). Struggled in time in MLB, now in minors.
Spangenberg SD - Solid bat vs. RHP (122/158/192) who's qualified at 3b
(4/H) and LF (9/H/+2). Struggling in MLB as well
Moylan KC - He's tough against RH (40/96/50) out of the pen.
Escobar KC - 7E defense at SS. Can probably be had for a bucket of
sunflower seeds or an autographed ball (as long as he's not the one who
autographed it)
*Other possible options*
Santana MIL - 111/200/192 & 107/186/192 with 5G in RF & EX power vs. both.
He's a very solid bat at RF or DH and is only 25. He's off to a slow start
in MLB and we've got Polanco PIT in RF, so Santana could be moved.
Gurriel HOU - 139/147/219 164/173/264 with 7G at 1B. He's another really
nice bat. The hot start of Cron for TB make Gurriel a possible trade chip
and the card is too good not to consider moving. His power #s are down so
far in MLB, but he's still a good hitter.
Montgomery CHN - Solid SP/RP option (85/136/103 & 74/145/95) who is having
a similar year in MLB. He's worth keeping, but we'd consider moving him
based on his card value and the early starts of Andriese TB & Velazquez BOS
this season in similar roles.
Darvish LAN - His card is very good and we're hoping he comes back from the
DL and gets back to form. We've got Bundy & Manaea fronting our rotation
for the future, so we could consider moving Darvish.
Morrow LAN - A great closer is a waste on a non contender and 70/71/80 and
80/80/89 with no DF and only 1 BB would be an asset in any bullpen. He's
dealing again this season so we can easily keep him, but are willing to
consider moving him due to his age.
If you see anyone of interest and want to at least touch base on
discussions let me know.
Mike KAT
