[IBL] EDG wins NC WC

ODM and EDG had an instant classic with several lead changes in the
deciding game of the wildcard series.
ODM too a quick 3-0 lead in the first. Aroldis Chapman came in to the 5th
to protect a 3-1 lead with a runner on and no one out. He promptly blew
the lead and EDG went ahead by a single run 4-3. In the 7th Josh Donaldson
hit a 3 run homer to put ODM up 6-4. But the ODM bullpen could not close
it out as Andrew Miller allowed an inherited runner in the bottom of the
7th to score. The run was unearned as Aaron Judge hit a hg to 2b. Cesar
Hernandez tossed the ball to the normally sure handed Pat Valaika at ss and
got the first leg of the double play but Valaika's throw to 1b sailed into
the dugout and Aaron Hicks scored to make it 6-5.
The score remained 6-5 until the bottom of the 9th. Miller became fatigued
to start the bottom of the ninth and gave up a single to Aaron Hicks.
Groundball specialist Dan Otero was summoned from the bullpen to face
righty Carlos Correa who singled. Up to the plate stepped Aaron Judge who
hit a screamer right at Josh Donaldson who bobbled the ball to load the
bases for Justin Smoak with no one out. ODM's last relief pitcher Chase
Whitley came in to face Smoak who blasted a walk off grand slam.
There will be questions in the media about the ODM managers bullpen
strategy in game 5 but it appear this is the end of the road for this ODM
squad as rumours are swirling that the franchise is moving to a new city
and the roster will be blown up. The ODM streak of 6 consecutive playoff
appearances has been a good run but the team's inability to get out of the
WC round the past two years after winning the IBL Championshp in 2016 has
led ownership to question the strategy of winning at all costs by trading
future draft picks to support the current squad.
The news is not all good for EDG however as starting pitcher Kyle Hendricks
was sent for an MRI immediately after his removal from the game reporting
arm discomfort. His status for the divisional round is unkown at this time
(EDG did not do injury roll yet)
Congrats to Rob for a hard fought victory in the series.
