Yes folks, the 2017 IBL Championship Series has finally started!
In game one, the Santa Fe Prairie Dogs jumped out to a 1-0 lead as Joc
Pederson led off the
game with a home run. They added some more runs in the middle innings on
an RBI double by Adam
Rosales, a 2-run double by Jose Ramirez, and a solo homer by Adrian
Gonzalez.
The Portland Raptors staged a fierce rally to erase the 5-0 deficit and tie
it in the bottom
of the 6th. Nelson Cruz drove home the first run with a single, then
Asdrubal Cabrera followed
with a 3-run blast to right field. Two batters later Curtis Granderson
launched a deep fly home
run of his own to tie the score. The game remained knotted at five until
the bottom of the 10th,
when Ben Zobrist and Cruz stroked back-to-back doubles to give Portland a
walk-off victory.
In game two, the Prairie Dogs pulled the ol' switcheroo, announcing Danny
Duffy as the starting
pitcher and then replacing him after one batter with Joe Ross. The
Portland offense did not
seem too fazed by the tactic, as Sean Rodriguez's park double put them
ahead 1-0. Asdrubal
Cabrera added another run the next inning with his 2nd homer of the series.
The Prairie Dogs countered with two in the fifth. After a pair of walks,
Joc Pederson brought
them both home with a double to the right field wall. Jose Ramirez was
called safe at home,
and after an instant replay review, the call was upheld and the game was
tied.
The Raptors countered in the bottom of the 6th, rallying for four runs.
Marcell Ozuna drove
in a pair with a single to center, and Maikel Franco drove in two more with
a single to left.
Jeurys Familia worked out of a jam in the 8th and then Tyler Thornburg
stranded a pair of
runners in the 9th to slam the door shut on a 6-2 Portland victory and a
2-0 series lead.
The date and time for game 3 has not been announced.
