Sure Altuve, Machado and Mancini are gone to better things, but that doesn’t mean that there aren’t still bargains to be had in the Crabs pursuit to rebuild (and lose 120+ games).

Here are the players still on the shelves

James McCann, Catcher. Coming off a career year in Chicago. Nearly a 4 in WAR. Hard to find that in the catcher position. And can play everyday if you like

Mike Fiers, Starting Pitcher. Want a starter who will eat innings and has a WHIP under 1.2? Finally a healthy Adam Eaton who had over 500 plate appearances. A .369 OBP, he’s a guy you can stick in your batting order and not worry. Some pop, decent glove, what more could you ask for?

What am I looking for in return? Well, draft picks are always nice. I’m going to need a 3rd baseman (Andujar is basically non-carded this year due to injury). Going to need a backup 2nd baseman (join the Dilson Herrera Bandwagon today!!! Plenty of seats available!!!!). Prospects always enticing. The younger the better (and younger is defined as 25 or less, not “he’s a young 31” cuz THAT ain’t young). Essentially any guy that has a chance to be decent in 3 years (when the Crabs might be relevant again….assuming they were ever relevant in the first place). The next couple years are tank-a-palooza, autopilot, MIS based seasons that will make me long for the days of starting Jack Cust and pitching Jon Garland every 5 days. Trade deadline is fast approaching. I’m not GIVING these guys away, but I see no reason to hang onto them either.

Doug/BAL

Sent from Mail for Windows 10
