As if the Prairie Dog season hasn't been challenging enough. this week's series against the visiting Casper Ghosts put things in perspective.

The Dogs have had an erratic offense, but nothing prepared the Last Fan in the Stands for game 1.

Lefty Mike Minor held the Dog offense well in check, allowing nothing more than a walk to Adrian Gonzalez through 8 commanding innings. As he warmed up for the 9th, Minor motioned to the visiting dugout for the trainer. It was decided that a blister Minor had been nursing had become too much for him to pitch with. Addison Reed came on to maintain the 1-0 Casper lead. He proceeded to whiff Gonzalez, then got pinch-hitter Don Kelly on a weak fly to center. Nate Schierholtz stepped in as a pinch-hitter for B.J. Upton. Two quick strikes, and it looked like the combined no-hitter would become a reality. Schierholtz got a pitch he could do something with, lining a shot back through the box and on into centerfield. No no-hitter tonight. Dustin Ackley then hit a hard grounder that was handled easily by Matt Carpenter, ending the night 1-0 in Casper's favor.

Reports indicate the Last Fan gave up and left the stadium after the home half of the 6th.

Larry
SFP
